Ian Ross

Ian Ross is the Vice President and Chief Operations Manager of Ross Metals, drawing from a lifetime of experience in the wholesale jewelry supply chain and precious metals refining industries. As the third generation of Ross Metals and architect of the company’s web presence, Ian is an expert in producing and selling all the materials jewelers need at every stage of the jewelry-making and jewelry-selling processes. Ian’s oversight of business operations requires a thorough understanding of evolving metals markets and trends in e-commerce, while also directly assisting clients on a daily basis. 

The 3rd Generation

Ian Ross was born in New York City, a few short blocks away from Ross Metals, at Lenox Hill Hospital to a Cuban immigrant named Angel and a Irish immigrant named Ellenlyn. He was raised in NYC's 47th Street Diamond District, spending time learning the business after school and every summer. As a small child, he would be tasked with searching the sales floor for any dropped precious metals or merchandise, with a reward promised if he found anything. This taught him the value of the items Ross Metals sold and that lesson has grown into an appreciation for everything the jewelry industry has to offer.

He attended Wilton High School and every summer would learn a different part of the business with his father, Angel. By the end of high school, Ian had worked in sales and refining, the two pillars of the Ross Metals operation, and even helped his father in the office with accounting and administrative tasks. While attending school, Ian excelled in basketball and started on the varsity team his sophomore year. He later led Wilton High to their first state tournament birth and win in over a decade. He then attended Syracuse University and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Finance.

After graduating from college, Ian began working full time and officially began the 3rd generation of Ross Metals. In 2018, he became obsessed with the fact that Ross Metals was missing something big... a website! For years, 47th Street brought in so much foot traffic, there wasn't a need for one but as technology advanced, the daunting task become inevitable. Creating a website capable of selling over 100,000 products in different units, sizes, shapes, colors, and karats was needed in order to help Ross Metals.

By 2020, rossmetals.com was fully functional and sold items in inches, square inches, grams, ounces, and pieces, each product collection needing a different code/functionality to work properly for our customers. Since then, the Ross Metals website has become a leading online supplier of wholesale jewelry supplies, including mill products, chains, findings, mountings, settings, stones, and finished fine jewelry pieces.

Ross Metals has grown to not just serve the tristate area and walk-ins but we now ship to all 50 states and 75+ countries worldwide.

As of 2025, Ian welcomed his first child, Gillian York Ross, into the world. Paying homage to the city that nourished him into the man he is today as well as ushering in the 4th generation of Ross Metals!
