Every precious metal product Ross Metals sells is covered by our Certificate of Authenticity. It delineates what we guarantee about the metal itself: that it is stamped at the fineness it is sold as, that it is sourced free of conflict minerals, and that our gold and precious metals come from recycled material. What Our Certificate Covers

Ross Metals has manufactured and supplied precious metal products and jewelry supplies from the New York City Diamond District since 1980, serving customers in all fifty states and more than seventy-five countries. The certificate covers four things: metal fineness and stamping, conflict-free sourcing, recycled content, and the quality systems behind them.

Metal Purity and the US Stamping Act

Ross Metals complies with the US Stamping Act of 1906-2018, which requires all finished jewelry products to be stamped with the correct fineness or metal karat of the product, for example 585 or 14K. What the stamp says is what the metal is, which is important when it comes to authenticity and validating whether a piece is made of precious metal.

Every product must pass quality control testing in the form of assaying to confirm fineness and karating, under our ISO 9001 quality management system. Ross Metals also complies with the requirements of the Federal Trade Commission and US Customs and Border Protection for all precious metal products.

Conflict-Free Sourcing

Ross Metals maintains a strict policy of using only conflict-free metals and minerals as described in the Dodd-Frank legislation, section 1502. All products purchased from Ross Metals are sourced from sustainable, non-conflict metals.

100% Recycled Metals

Ross Metals complies with all policies outlined in SCS Global Services' Recycled Content Certification. We guarantee that all gold and precious metal products originate from 100% recycled metals.

Recycled metal is refined back to the same fineness as newly mined metal, so there is no difference in quality, color or durability between a recycled 14K alloy and any other 14K alloy. The difference is where the raw material came from. Much of ours comes back to us through our own refining operation, where customers send scrap for processing.

Certificate of Authenticity FAQ

How can I verify the authenticity of my jewelry?

Start with the stamp. Finished jewelry sold in the United States must carry a fineness or karat mark, such as 14K or 585, and a maker's mark identifying who is responsible for it. If you need the metal content confirmed rather than declared, an assay is the definitive test, and Ross Metals offers assaying as a service.

How do I get a certificate of authenticity for Ross Metals products?

It applies automatically. Every precious metal product supplied by Ross Metals is covered by the certificate shown on this page. If you need a copy to pass to your own customer, contact the showroom and we will provide one.

Is recycled gold good quality?

Yes. Refining returns gold to its elemental state, so recycled gold is chemically identical to newly mined gold and is alloyed to exactly the same fineness standards. A 14K piece made from recycled metal is 14K in the same way any other 14K piece is.

Does recycled gold tarnish more than mined gold?

No. Tarnish behavior depends on the alloy, meaning which metals are mixed with the gold and in what proportion, not on where the gold originally came from. Identical alloys behave identically.

What does conflict-free mean?

It means the metals and minerals are not sourced from mines that fund armed conflict. The standard referenced on our certificate is section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank legislation, which sets out the due diligence and reporting requirements for conflict minerals.
