What is the difference between 10K, 14K, 18K, and 14K Gold-Filled gold?

Gold chains are manufactured to meet different standards of gold purity, measured in karats from the lower purity 10K to the higher purity 14K or 18K and then of course 24K pure gold and everything in between. These are all legally defined as solid gold. Higher karat gold is more valuable and can look more "golden" (a deeper yellow color) but it has drawbacks when it comes to jewelry-making and wearing. Pure gold is very soft and pliable, prone to denting and bending, while 14K, often the most popular choice for jewelry, is the perfect mix of pure gold content and other more durable metals. 14K gold chain strikes a balance between purity, cost, durability, and aesthetics. Gold-filled, on the other hand, has a much more arduous manufacturing process but put simply, is a layer of solid gold bonded onto chain links made of a more affordable base metal, with ours being brass-based. While gold-filled doesn't come close to the real thing in terms of value, it will look just as beautiful and must legally always contain at least 5% solid gold by weight.
